Tri-State Consortium Visit
April 10-12, 2019
To what extent is the district’s stated commitment to mindfulness and social emotional learning understood, rooted, and nurtured across the system?
- How sufficient and sustainable are the champions, resources, opportunities, and community partners in each sector?
- To what extent has the recent adoption of specific SEL programs (e.g. RULER) helped or hindered the quality and authenticity of our efforts and teachers’ commitment?
Mamaroneck’s Commitment to Social and Emotional Well-Being
The Mamaroneck School District is committed to nurturing the social, emotional, and inner lives of our students. We recognize that when we strengthen emotional intelligence and capacities for self-awareness, and when children are better able to self regulate and interact with others, there is greater availability for learning.
We seek to create an inclusive learning community in which individuals of every race, class, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical ability feel seen, heard, and valued. This requires the district to be vigilant and active in confronting and combating inequities and biases of all forms.
Recognizing the crucial interconnection between minds and hearts, we commit to foster the skills that enable our children to become aware, compassionate, thoughtful, balanced, proactive and responsible citizens. To these ends, the district promotes a growth mindset, provides mindfulness education, supports ongoing community-building activities, encourages healthy lifestyle habits, implements Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, and is launching a study of culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy.
