Resilient Kids, Inspired Teachers, Joyful Classrooms

[Emotional intelligence is] the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships.

Mamaroneck’s Approach to Social and Emotional Well-Being

The Mamaroneck School District is committed to working towards an inclusive learning community in which all individuals feel seen, valued and heard. To this end, we recognize the crucial interconnection between minds and hearts.

Nurturing the Social, Emotional and Inner Lives of Our Students:

  • We value joyful and passionate learning for students, faculty, families and communities.
  • We recognize that when we strengthen emotional intelligence and capacities for self-awareness, and when children are better able to self regulate and interact with others, there is greater availability for learning.
  • We are committed to fostering the social, emotional and reflective skills that will enable our children to become aware, compassionate, thoughtful, balanced, proactive and responsible citizens.

To these ends, the district promotes a growth mindset, provides mindfulness education, supports ongoing community-building activities, encourages healthy lifestyle habits, and is piloting specific SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) programs.
