Greetings and Welcome to the Hommocks!
My name is Matthew Samuelson and I am incredibly proud to be the principal of your Hommocks Middle School. Ours is an incredible family of learners, athletes, performers, artists, allies and community minded citizens. Our Tigers are brave, proud and true and I know that our faculty is honored to be a part of the proud Mamaroneck community.
Middle School is a wonderful time in a young learner’s life. It is a time to explore our interests and to develop expertise, pose the big questions and to work together to find the answers. It is a time to build self-confidence and self-advocacy skills; it is a time to foster new friendships, to strengthen old ones and to work together to create a learning environment that is inclusive, warm and inviting to all of our learners.
Middle School also comes with its challenges. We’re all learning how to fly our own places, to operate a very sophisticated machine in a complex and ever-evolving social environment. Not every day is an easy one and we know that, from time to time, each member of our HMX community may have a need for a guiding mentor’s hand to support the navigation of a challenging problem. We are so fortunate to have a committed, insightful and talented team faculty that can provide just the right kind of help when those moments arrive.
Middle School must be a place where students have the sort of personalized experiences that push us to learn how to be scholars, how to be citizens who are positively contributing members to a society and how to stand strong in the face of the obstacles that these years present. These, above all, are our compass points, our North Star–and we look forward to this work with our children and families in the strong partnership that leads to the most beautiful outcomes.
Roaring like a Tiger,
Mr. Samuelson
