Cell Phone Rules for the Elementary Schools

AS OF SEPTEMBER 3, 2024 FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

All cell phones and smart watches remain off and away (in backpacks) during the school day.

While we realize the value that these electronic devices have in allowing you to communicate with your children when they are walking to and from school, please know that they must be turned off during the school day AND kept in a student’s backpack. Setting it to “School Mode”, and wearing the device is not permitted. If a student needs to contact a caregiver for any reason, they can do so from the main office, with the guidance of school personnel. Should you need to get a message to your student, please contact their teacher directly via email and/or call the main office.  

Providing students with a device is a personal family choice, and we understand the many benefits of providing your student with a device.  However, we want to ensure an educational environment free of distractions resulting from SmartWatches/Wearables and cell phone use in school. 

We encourage you to speak with your students about the responsibility of having a smartwatch/wearable and cellphone and reinforce our school rules at home.  This means reminding students to turn off their devices at school, to properly store it in their backpacks, and to resist the urge to communicate with them via device during the school day.  If a student is seen wearing a Smart device, they will be asked to take it off and store it in their backpack.  If this becomes a recurring issue, the device will be sent to the office, where it will be stored until a caregiver can come and pick it up in person. 

Smart Wearables are expensive items, and if you do not feel comfortable with them being stored in your child’s backpack during the school day, we would encourage you to have your students leave these items at home.

A PARTIR DEL 3 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 2024 PARA LAS ESCUELAS PRIMARIAS

Todos los teléfonos celulares y relojes inteligentes permanecen apagados y guardados (en mochilas) durante el día escolar.

Si bien somos conscientes del valor que tienen estos dispositivos electrónicos al permitirle comunicarse con sus hijos cuando caminan hacia y desde la escuela, por favor sepa que deben estar apagados durante el día escolar Y guardados en la mochila del estudiante. Configurarlo en “Modo escuela” y usar el dispositivo no es permitido. Si un estudiante necesita comunicarse con un(a) cuidador(a) por algún motivo, puede hacerlo desde la oficina principal, con la guía del personal de la escuela. Si necesita enviar un mensaje a su estudiante, por favor comuníquese con su maestro(a) directamente por correo electrónico y/o llame a la oficina principal.  

Proporcionar un dispositivo a los estudiantes es una elección personal de la familia y entendemos los muchos beneficios de proporcionarle un dispositivo a su estudiante.  Sin embargo, queremos garantizar un entorno educativo libre de distracciones derivadas del uso de relojes inteligentes/dispositivos portátiles y teléfonos móviles en la escuela.

Le animamos a hablar con sus estudiantes sobre la responsabilidad de tener un reloj inteligente/dispositivo portátil y teléfono celular y reforzar nuestras reglas escolares en casa.  Esto significa recordarles a los estudiantes que apaguen sus dispositivos en la escuela, que los guarden adecuadamente en sus mochilas y que resistan la tentación de comunicarse con ellos a través del dispositivo durante el día escolar.  Si se ve a un estudiante usando un dispositivo inteligente, se le pedirá que se lo quite y lo guarde en su mochila.  Si esto se convierte en un problema recurrente, el dispositivo se enviará a la oficina, donde se almacenará hasta que un(a) cuidador(a) pueda venir a recogerlo en persona. 

Los dispositivos portátiles son artículos costosos y, si no se siente cómodo(a) guardándolos en la mochila de su hijo(a) durante el día escolar, le recomendamos que haga que sus estudiantes dejen estos artículos en casa.
