NY Project Hope: An Emotional COVID-19 Support Helpline (Funded by FEMA and overseen by the NY State Office of Mental Health) Available to Mamaroneck School District Families:
The NY Project Hope team has an emotional support helpline that anyone (children and adults) may call to talk to a crisis counselor about their COVID-19 experiences and to be connected to any resources they may need, available Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The helpline is free, anonymous, and confidential. They also conduct educational presentations and support groups for people who have struggled during the pandemic to talk and connect with others. Virtual and in-person groups and wellness workshops for people of all ages (youth, adults, and seniors) across Westchester.

The Sharing Shelf is Westchester's Clothing Bank for Children founded to combat clothing insecurity among low-income children and families in our community and meet basic material needs such as socks, underwear, diapers, feminine hygiene and toiletries. We collect new and gently used clothing for infants, children and teens. That clothing is sorted by quality, size, season and gender then distributed to local, low income children at no cost through nonprofits, schools, hospitals and community groups in Westchester County. The children we serve receive a week's worth of seasonally appropriate clothing matched to their sizing needs. Tri-County Boys Basketball (TCBL) Tryouts
- Calling all 5th grade boys who are interested in playing travel basketball. For more information on the Tri County Boys Basketball League tryouts, click here.
- For those 6th grade boys interested in high level competitive basketball against teams from Westchester and Putnam Counties. Season runs from November until March. One team of approximately 10 players is being formed.Open to residents of Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye Neck. Tryout Dates October 30 and 31. Parents of interested children are asked to contact Stephen Hughes (sshughes2@gmail.com) and sign their child up PRIOR to the try-out dates. Additional information will then be provided.

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department is hosting a Community Night Out on Friday, October 1st from 4 to 7pm at Harbor Island Park. The event will allow the community to get to know Village Police Officers and see demonstrations by the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, Fire Department, Mamaroneck EMS and the Mamaroneck Parks and Highway Department. Community Night Out will also feature local food trucks, live music and games with prizes for many ages.

Looking for an institution of higher education that has programs for students with disabilities? Don’t know where to start? Get an overview of what to look for in a college support program and gives examples of researched programs from a variety of institutions across the country, including programs for students with autism.The session will also give insights into how to recognize an inclusive campus culture as well as provide parents with a list of example questions to ask when visiting campuses. College Transition Insights
Wish you had a crystal ball of what the transition to college will be like for your student and for you? Come find out! Geared toward parents of students with disabilities, this course will give an overview of the differences between high school and college expectations, including the accommodations process from documentation requirements to the initial interview to supporting students to identify and use the many resources available to them on campus.This workshop will also offer tips on executive functioning strategies that parents can share with their students to help them self-advocate and avoid common pitfalls as they learn to effectively navigate college life. From LMC Media: Calling student journalists!
LMC Media is working with aspiring student journalists in Mamaroneck High School to create a local weekly news show. This program highlights events and news in the Larchmont Mamaroneck Community and Mamaroneck High School. Students will have an opportunity to learn video journalism with LMC Media staff and award winning journalist, Lou Young. Participation in 'The Local Weekly Roundup' can provide internship and community service hours. This news program began to assist quarantining senior citizens to stay up to date in their community and it has grown to benefit students. The program provides hands-on news gathering, editorial writing and decision making experience.

Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021: Police Reform & Reinvention Public Forum
The Village of Mamaroneck seeks input from the public to complete a Community Survey for the Village’s police reform and reinvention plan. When complete, the plan aims to improve the services, processes, and reputation of the Village of Mamaroneck’s Police Department (VMPD). The Village is reaching out to the public to have participation that reflects Mamaroneck’s diversity and encourages everyone to share their views and opinions. In addition to the Survey, there will be an online Public Forum on Thursday, January 7th at 7:00pm for members of the public to share their views and opinions via ZOOM. The Survey is available in BOTH English AND Spanish. FREE TUTORING THROUGH LIBRARY SYSTEM
Tutor.com is a 1:1 live online tutoring service that is FREE through the library system. They just announced Spanish-language tutoring in a number of subjects. Information can be found on our website. Students must access Tutor.com through the library, and just need their card # and PIN.
RECYCLE YOUR FOOD SCRAPS THIS THANKSGIVING!
Haven’t started food scrap recycling yet? Get your starter kit in time for Thanksgiving! We are now offering free, contactless delivery of the complete food scrap kit to your home. A volunteer can drop off your starter kit and pick up your $20 check made payable to LMJGDC (Larchmont Mamaroneck Joint Garbage Disposal Commission). Please email us at foodwastekits@townofmamaroneckny.org to order or if you have questions. Take advantage of this food scrap recycling program offered to those in the Village of Larchmont and Town of Mamaroneck. Learning Link Advocacy Group was founded by Mamaroneck High School Original Civic Research and Action seniors to bridge the opportunity gap between students of different economic backgrounds.Learning Link solicits scholarships for local businesses to provide extracurricular activities, e.g. music, art, robotics, martial arts, etc., and then connects interested underserved elementary students to those opportunities with the help of school district social workers. Street Store Serving Those in Need During the Pandemic
Due to the pandemic, many families have to choose between buying food, paying rent, or buying clothes. YOU CAN HELP! We need clothing for an upcoming Street Store to serve those with need in Larchmont/Mamaroneck. Bring your used clothing donations (fall/winter season only with a strong need for children’s & men’s clothing) to Larchmont Avenue Church, 60 Forest Park Avenue, Larchmont, on the following dates: Tuesday, September 22 from 8:30 - 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 23 from 1:30 - 3:30 PM and, Thursday, September 24 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.
