Board Approves Appointment of Matt Porricelli as Interim
Assistant Principal at Murray Ave. School, Effective July 1
MAMARONECK, NY, June 20, 2019 – Assistant Superintendent for Administration & Personnel Carol Priore announced at Tuesday evening's Board of Education meeting that Matt Porricelli will be named Assistant Principal at Murray Ave. School beginning July 1, 2019. Porricelli replaces Colleen Melnyk, who will move into the Principal position.
Porricelli joined the District in 2009 as a building substitute and then accepted several leave replacement positions. Since 2014, he has been a full-time classroom teacher at Mamaroneck Avenue School, teaching both 3rd and 4th grades.
"Matt is a creative and talented teacher who we know will bring his instructional knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching to the position of Assistant Principal," Priore said when announcing the appointment. "I have two quick stories to share that demonstrate his strengths. While Annie and I were visiting classrooms during a learning walk we came upon Matt introducing his students to the American Revolution dressed in period gear as a soldier. To say he had students' full attention would be an understatement...his students were on the edge of their seats bursting with curiosity and excitement. More recently he has led his Mamaroneck Avenue 4th graders on multiple trips to the Mamaroneck Public Library to foster students' life-long habit of public library patronage."
Through his work in Mamaroneck, Porricelli has grown as a school leader and modeled, among other things, innovative ways to integrate technology into classroom instruction and create flexible learning spaces. He completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Fordham University and his administrative certification through Lehman College.
Porricelli said, "I feel privileged to be able to continue to work in the district that I love and serve as interim Assistant Principal at Murray Avenue School. I look forward to meeting all of the families at Murray, some of which I have already had the pleasure of knowing. I am excited to be working with Colleen, and all of the wonderful teachers, aides and staff at Murray. I hope everyone has a great summer, and is looking forward to next year as much as I am!"# # #
