Letter from the Superintendent
April 12, 2021 Dear Parents and Guardians,
As communicated with you yesterday, the NY State Department of Health revised its health and safety guidelines for schools over the weekend. There is tremendous ambiguity in the interpretation of these hefty (24-pages) guidelines and how they may impact districts. Our district, along with regional districts, is currently reviewing and digesting all of the details and expects to get further clarification from the Westchester County and NY State Departments of Health over the next 48 hours. We will update the community as we receive clear guidance on how the revised guidelines may or may not impact our school learning models.
Using our new Edvistas software, linked directly to our student database, we will be able to more effectively remind, manage and monitor student reporting in real-time, knowing instantly which students have not completed the form. Families who have not yet completed the form will receive daily follow-up reminders between 7 and 8 am. Middle and high school students who carry a cell phone to school will be asked to verify a safe to enter "green screen" daily prior to entering Hommocks and MHS.
Once again, I want to thank everyone for following protocols and sharing a concern for the health and safety of all those in our broader community. Each of your actions to cooperate and take precautions makes a difference, and we are grateful for the collective efforts to help ensure that our schools remain open.
Respectfully,
Dr. Robert I. Shaps Superintendent of Schools 1000 W. Boston Post Rd. • Mamaroneck, NY 10543 • (914) 220-3000 |
