(See more photos/video HERE.) Welcome Back Message from the Superintendent
April 8, 2021 Dear Parents and Guardians,
We all (parents, students, teachers, staff and administrators) experienced a range of emotions today, as students bustled through our school doors this morning for full time in-person learning for the first time in more than a year. I watched and smiled as students greeted their peers, and reunions took place between students and staff. "This is the best day of my life," I heard one student say. "SO happy to see you again!" said another. Amid the uncertainties, it was a joyful, celebratory and, yes, a calm day.
I am proud of the work we put in to prepare for this moment. Inside, there are plastic barriers/shields on every desk, and our students are adjusting to wearing masks all day. Outside, our schools now sport more picnic tables; school gardens are open for outdoor learning, and we are making use of every bit of outdoor space we have.
Though COVID-19 brought unique challenges that nobody could have ever anticipated, we see tremendous opportunity under today's bright blue skies. We are not the same; we are in fact better and stronger as a school system. We have adapted, innovated and evolved. We are more resilient than ever -- ready to tackle bumps that come our way -- and know that we could pivot our learning model at any time if circumstances required us to do so.
Thank you to our families for entrusting your children in our care. Thank you to our extraordinary faculty and staff for always prioritizing students. And thank you to everyone for your collective emphasis on continuing to take precautions to maintain the health and safety of our school community during the remainder of this school year.
Remember, we are here to support our families during this transition. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
Welcome Back!
With warm regards,
Dr. Robert I. Shaps 1000 W. Boston Post Rd. • Mamaroneck, NY 10543 • (914) 220-3000 |
