MUFSD Participates in Job Fair to Promote Diversity in Hiring Practices
On Saturday, February 27, 2021, seven members of the Mamaroneck UFSD leadership team participated in the Lower Hudson Council of School Personnel Administrators Diversity Job Fair. Candidates from across the region, country and as far away as Asia and Europe, participated in a full day of virtual professional development, beginning with a panel discussion about initiatives to hire and support diverse educators in our schools, led by local diverse school and district leaders. Participants then engaged in workshops to support preparation for the interview and hiring process, from navigating the New York teacher certification process, to learning how to develop their resume and cover letter, and preparing for the interview and demonstration lessons. The day culminated with three hours for candidate meetings with districts based on anticipated vacancies for the 2021-2022 school year.
MUFSD Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Personnel, Dr. Jeremy Barker, described the importance of equity initiatives in recruitment. "The District's active participation in the recruitment and ongoing support of diverse candidates is extremely important to our core mission," Dr. Barker said. "These efforts support the goals of our District Equity Team and further our commitment to ensure that the faculty in Mamaroneck's schools reflects the diversity of our local community and the world." Mamaroneck's team met with more than 80 diverse candidates at the event and expects many to receive consideration for positions by participating in our full interview processes in the weeks ahead. 1000 W.
