We are sad to inform you of the passing of Dr. Calvert Earl Schlick, Jr, a man of extraordinary talents who touched the lives of many. Cal spent 28 years working in the Mamaroneck School District, where he was a tremendous force. He served as Assistant Superintendent and was a guiding light in the school system, always challenging educators to learn and grow, to be aware of new programs and curricula, and to seek opportunities for all students to excel. He was a strong supporter of the APPLE program, developed Mamaroneck High School's (MHS) Mandarin program (the first Chinese foreign language program for public school students in the State) and, as a tireless advocate for music and the arts, was instrumental in creating the award-winning PACE program at MHS. Cal also was recognized across the U.S. and internationally as a champion fencer, coach and mentor all of his adult life and coached the MHS fencing team for more than four decades, until the age of 88. And one final fun fact: Cal is credited with writing the first contract for copy machines in the District.
Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Schlick family. A memorial service to celebrate Cal's life will be planned for a future date. 1000 W. Boston Post Rd. • Mamaroneck, NY 10543 • (914) 220-3000 |
