Letter from Superintendent Dr. Shaps September 25, 2020
"We're in this together" is worth repeating even if it feels cliché. With uncertainty still weighing heavily upon us, our grounding feels fragile since we know that at any point, based on evolving conditions, we could be required to shift to a full-remote learning environment. It is critical to our success that all members of our community continue to follow best practices by wearing masks in public places, avoiding large crowds and keeping your student home from school if anyone in the family is showing signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please remind your children of the importance of making wise decisions during this public health crisis.
New norms have surfaced in our present-day blended learning environment. We realize that in some cases parents are viewing live instruction; therefore, we ask parents to be mindful of the traditional teacher-student relationship and allow the interaction between teacher and student to flow as if students were in a regular classroom setting.
We are committed to providing your child with a quality educational experience (a Mamaroneck education that community members have come to know and expect) -- whether in the classroom or online -- while maintaining extensive measures to protect the health of students, staff and our entire community. We are here and available to help your child achieve success and navigate school life.
Lecturer, author and podcast host Brené Brown in her podcast earlier this week talked about "surge capacity" and the challenges associated with finding the strength over and over again to surmount obstacles getting in our way. Her words resonate with me, as I am particularly reflective of and inspired by our teachers and families who have endured, persisted and surged through so very much over the past six months in order to ensure that the students in our care continue to learn and grow.
