MAMARONECK, NY, Aug. 31, 2020 -- The Mamaroneck Board of Education at its meeting last Thursday evening further reduced the District budget by $1.7 million to make up for a projected $1.5 mill. loss in State aid revenue and additional operational costs due to COVID-19. This is the second round of budgetary reductions since the 2020-21 MUFSD Budget was voted on and approved by the community in June.
Budget reductions proposed and outlined by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Shaps and Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations Sylvia Wallach on Thursday focused primarily on personnel costs and expenses related to activities and programs that would not be possible with current health and safety restrictions around the pandemic. The Administration also presented an update on District reserves. The Board did not take any action at this point in time to withdraw funds from reserves. Additionally, the Administration recommended considering cutting the Modified Sports program for 7th and 8th graders and two freshmen teams at the high school; however, the Board decided to hold off on making these athletics budget reductions.
