NYSED Releases Framework for School Reopening Guidelines
July 14, 2020 -- The New York State Education Department released a framework for reopening guidance to school districts yesterday for the 2020-2021 academic year, promising more detailed information later this week. The framework covers a range of issues pertaining to:
School districts across NY are being given flexibility to develop their own reopening plans (due by July 31), which is what Mamaroneck School District has been working on for the past several weeks. Governor Cuomo said schools will be able to reopen in regions that are in Phase IV of the State's economic reopening and have a daily infection rate of 5% or lower over a 14-day average. The State will announce its initial decision on each region during the first week of August. However, if a spike is seen between when the announcement is made and the first day of school, schools will immediately close if the regional rate shoots past 9% over a seven-day average.
