March 17, 2020 NEWS RELEASE Dr. Colleen Melnyk to be Named Principal, MAMARONECK, NY, March 17, 2020 -- At this evening's Board of Education meeting, it is anticipated the Board will vote to approve the Superintendent's recommendation to appoint Dr. Colleen Melnyk as principal and Matt Porricelli as assistant principal at Murray Ave. School. Both administrators have served those roles this year as interim positions and will now serve probationary terms for the next three years. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Shaps said, "Together, these two educational leaders have taken great care to build a positive school culture at Murray Ave. School. Their focus has been on building solid home-to-school partnerships through strengthened parent engagement, providing a personalized learning experience for all students and demonstrating capable, hands-on instructional leadership." Dr. Shaps noted that he initially planned to conduct a full search for these two positions, but that it became clear after conducting focus groups at Murray with parents, teachers and students that the community overwhelmingly supported the two leaders moving on to probationary, permanent positions. Dr. Melnyk served as Assistant Principal at Murray (and prior to that, as a teacher at Murray for seven years and Mamaroneck Ave. School for two years) before taking on the principal role this school year. Mr. Porricelli had been a full-time classroom teacher at Mamaroneck Avenue School, teaching both 3rd and 4th grades, since 2014. # # #
