Intramurals
The purpose of the Intramural Sports Program is to provide opportunities for all students, faculty members, administration and school club organizations to participate in a variety of individual, dual and team activities sponsored by the physical education department. Intramural sports are available to any Mamaroneck student (grades 6-12) who wishes to participate in some form of physical activity. Intramurals are held exclusively within the Hommocks Middle School and Mamaroneck High School (no outside competition), and the schedule is much less time consuming than interscholastic sports. There are no practices or coaches in the intramural sports program. Games are scheduled during the week either immediately after school or during the evening hours, depending on the availability of school facilities. Students who do not participate in the interscholastic athletic program are encouraged to become involved with intramural sports. The program stresses physical activity, personal wellness, sportsmanship and just plain fun. It is a great opportunity to explore some new activities and have a great time in the process. High SchoolActivities such as golf, basketball, indoor football, volleyball, indoor soccer and weight training will be offered. Any activity can be offered if enough student interest is shown. When appropriate, short-term tournaments may be offered as an outgrowth of the regular physical education program. Short-term team tournament competition with students signing up has been a successful way of determining student interest in a particular activity. Information concerning the high school intramural program will be available in the physical education office and announced over MHS Info.
