6 tech bucks = 94                          2 tech bucks = 80

5 tech bucks = 90                          You must turn in at least two tech bucks.

Be sure to sign your bucks, staple them to the Buck Sheet, fill out that sheet, and put it all in the PACE Mailbox on the piano in the classroom.

Answer any two questions. About a page per question should do it. Please keep a copy of your assignment on paper or on disc.

1.      Often a choreographer creates a dance that is ABOUT SOMETHING—perhaps about a character, a story, a relationship, a piece of music or some other aspect of life.  Select a dance from KINESTHESIA that you feel is about something, and state what that “something” is.  Does the choreographer communicate A PARTICULAR POINT OF VIEW about the subject?  If so, what is it?  Then explain how you have drawn these conclusions.  Be sure to give the title of the dance, the name of the choreographer, and be sure to carefully describe all the observable aspects of the dance that lead you to draw conclusions about the dance’s subject and point of view.

2.     Often a choreographer is interested in providing AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE for the audience as it watches his/her dance.  Select a dance from KINESTHESIA that, for you, provided an interesting watching experience.  Describe that experience from beginning to end in as much detail as possible.  Be sure to give the title of the dance, the name of the choreographer, and be sure to carefully describe all the observable aspects of the dance that allowed you to have that experience.

3.       “Dance can convey the feeling of truth without having to make literal sense.”  Choose a dance from Kinesthesia that conveyed to you a moment (or many moments) of the feeling of truth.  Explain what this truth was and describe by referring to observable aspects of the dance how the feeling of that truth was conveyed.

4.      Choice for PACE 2 only:  Choose one dance from the show that you would categorize as representational and one that you would categorize as presentational.   Describe both dances, focusing on the observable aspects of the dances that led you to classify them in this way.

This assignment is due on Mon. DEC 11th at 3:15 pm in the PACE mailbox located in the upstairs classroom.

Alternate assignment.  If you cannot get to see KINESTHESIA, you can do this alternate assignment.  It is due no later than Friday, Dec. 15 in the PACE mailbox in the classroom.

Borrow or rent a movie musical (“Singing in the Rain,” “My Fair Lady,” “Hair,” “The Music Man”… there are hundreds!)

Watch the whole show and then choose one dance to focus on.  Watch it several times and then answer the following questions.

1.      Describe the dance:  the cast, the patterns, the style, the important moments, and the development over time.

2.      How does the dance function to move the plot along and to establish each character’s needs and desires?

3.      How does the dance help create the world of play? How does the movement language reinforce the world that the film tries to create?

      4.    Choose a particular dancer (a featured one or a chorus member).  Explain what you think this     performer’s challenge was and assess how well he/she succeeded.
