· PSAT/NMSQT
The Expanded Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/ Nation Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a two-hour and ten minute multiple choice test that measures verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities as well as writing skills. Register through the CIC in early October (you’ll be notified by mail of specific dates). Both juniors and sophomores have the option to take this test.
· SAT I: Reasoning Test
The SAT is a three-hour and forty five minute primarily multiple-choice test that measures writing, verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities that develop over time. You can register on line at www.collegeboard.com or pick up a registration booklet at the CIC.
· SAT II: Subject Tests
Subject tests are one-hour, primarily multiple-choice tests that measure your knowledge of particular subjects and your ability to apply that knowledge. For a list of the subjects and the specific dates they are offered please refer to the College Board SAT I / SAT II registration booklet found at the CIC or visit their web page at www.collegeboard.com .
· ACT
The ACT assessment measures the knowledge, understanding and skills that you have acquired up to now in the areas of reading, math, English and science. This test is sometimes used in place of the SAT I. For more information see your counselor or go to www.act.org .
· Regents
Regents exams are state mandated tests. Math, English, Global History, US History, and one science regents are all required for high school graduation.
· Advanced Placement
AP tests are the culmination of an Advanced Placement class. They are required of all students taking an AP course, and are usually offered in early May. Please note that some AP classes can be taken in the Junior year.
