| Bob grew up in the South Bronx, an Irish
Catholic neighborhood, where it seemed everyone in the parish
either became a priest, a religious, a cop or a crook. His
father was a cop. Fortunately, the family moved to the country
(Yonkers) when he was in the 6th grade before he had
to make a career choice. By the time he started college he
made that career choice knowing he wanted to work in education
and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in
English. He started his career in 1972 teaching English at
Hawthorne Junior HS, all the while knowing he wanted to
eventually be a counselor. That decision was confirmed after
just a year at Hawthorne and a second year of teaching at Maria
Regina HS, an all girls Catholic high school in Hartsdale.
He left teaching in 1973 to join the admissions staff at
Mercy College, where he stayed for 13 years working his way up
to Director of Admissions, while getting a degree in counseling
from Manhattan College.
After doing a job that he loved it was time for a change
and in 1986 returned to his original plan to be a school
counselor, first at Rye High School for 2 years and at MHS for
the past 17 years. He found another job that he loves.
He lives in Ossining with his wife Dianne and his ten
year old son Ryan, his pride and the joy. Fatherhood came a
little later in life for him but he claims the experience is
keeping him young. These days he is savoring the last years of
innocence before Ryan turns into a teenager. It also has given
him an appreciation for what kids go through before they arrive
at high school and a sensitivity for the range of feelings for
parents who watch from the sidelines.
