Nick
Kourabas was born in New York City, attended Stuyvesant High
School and New York University, where he received a Bachelor's
Degree in English. He received a Master's Degree in Guidance
and Counseling from Lehman College. He has been a counselor
at MHS since 1988. Prior to that he taught English and helped
to create an internship program for seniors. He also taught
English at a high school in El Paso, Texas (!), New York City
and The Graham School in Hastings. He is currently teaching
a graduate course in group counseling at The College of New
Rochelle. Nick also was the owner of a bowling center for
two years.
Outside
of the high school, Nick likes to spend his time in the woods
and sand traps of local golf courses. Golfing is a sport he
recently took up, and questions why every day. On Lake Mahopac,
where Nick lives, he loves to attempt starting his boat and
not catching fish. For all of these reasons, Nick clearly
loves coming to work and is not planning on retiring anytime
soon.
It
is his hope that his students will see him as their advocate,
as someone to whom they can turn with any sort of academic,
personal, or other problem. His door is open and he loves
for "his kids" to pop in at anytime, whether it's
to discuss a problem, lament the fates of the Mets and Jets
or just to say "hi". |
