Reading

The 2nd and 3rd grade reading program provides extra support for students in a small group setting.  The program combines explicit multisensory phonic instruction with guided reading.   The students are actively engaged throughout each thirty minute lesson, participating in various short paced hands on activities.  A typical lesson includes: instruction in a phonetic concept or sound, dictation, sight word instruction, strategy work, and guided reading.  The reading room is a place where students can feel comfortable working on skills that are challenging for them.  The children feel successful in this environment, and they grow as readers throughout the year.
