About Our School

Our Mission

Mamaroneck Avenue School is a community of lifelong learners that respects diversity and promotes responsible citizenship. Children are provided the tools necessary to think creatively, take risks, solve problems, and communicate effectively. In a safe, caring, and intellectually stimulating environment, the children are prepared for the demands of the twenty-first century.

Our History

Our school was built early in the century, north of the railroad right on the road so children could get to school easily. The front building was built in 1909, with additions in 1916 and in 1928.

All of the problems in the early 1900's did not deal with curriculum and school buildings. A Board member in 1910 moved "that the Clerk be instructed to write the police that cattle and horses had damaged the Mamaroneck Avenue School property, with a request for better protection of same." And a letter from the Chief of Police offered "to impound animals found on the…property if advised by the janitor.

It's a true community school, with alumni who continue to reside in the community and work locally in many businesses and professions.
