The Hommocks Curriculum, Programs and Services Hommocks provides a school environment reflecting a strong, student-centered educational philosophy. Curricular and extra-curricular programs are designed to respond to the full range of intellectual and developmental needs of the middle school age group. A balanced educational curriculum of core and high-interest exploratory courses is taught through a variety of teaching styles, methods and materials. Emphasis is on "how" to learn as well as "what" to learn.
There are four counselors for the student Body.
Counselors are responsible for placement of students into
classes in seventh, eighth and ninth grades, individual work with students and their
parents, group work with students, liaison activities between students and teachers and
teachers and parents, and assisting in building the school's master schedule.
A full-time psychologist is available to all Hommocks Middle School students who may need additional support to cope with the middle school experience. The psychologist is responsible for conducting cognitive testing that is used to determine special education eligibility, contributing to individual educational plans, is a member of the school Crisis Team and Instructional Support Team, counsels students on an individual and group basis, an can serve as liaison between school personnel and support services within the community. In addition, the school
psychologist may participate in team meetings and case conferences.
Fax Number: 220-3317 School Nurses are members of school educational teams striving for safety, good health, and optimal learning of children and staff in their care. A registered nurse is available at The Hommocks between the hours of 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Mon. - Fri. to care for those students who feel sick or are injured. If a child needs to go home, a parent/guardian or emergency contact is first notified. In addition to emergency care, some of the school nurse responsibilities are: dispensing prescribed medications with orders from a student's physician, scheduling and assisting with school and sports physical exams and sports certification and assisting in the completion of working papers. School nurses are also available to students and staff as a health counselor and resource and encourage parents to utilize them in that capacity. Confidentiality is always practiced.
