Frequently Asked Questions
About the new Automated Calling System
Last year the district introduced Connect-ED, an Internet-based school-to-parent communication service that allows school administrators to send periodic and personalized phone messages to all families in just minutes. This service will help us provide a safer learning environment and enhance emergency preparedness.
Will this messaging service be used for snow cancellations and delays?
YES. Parents will receive an automated phone message in the event that school is
cancelled or delayed. The exact time of an early morning call will depend upon
the weather but will take into consideration that many parents need to know in
time to make alternative child care or transportation arrangements.
All non-emergency messages are delivered to your primary phone number. Only one call is sent to a household, even if there are several school children in the family.
What if an emergency happens during the day or school is closing early?
In the event the district or school needs to reach parents during the day for an emergency or an early dismissal, the system will send a phone message to up to six phone numbers per student (home, cell and office for each parent).
Please note that when you receive one of these messages, the caller ID will display the district’s main phone number. If you miss any part of the message, you can press “*” (star) to hear the message again.
What if one of my phone numbers change?
You should notify your child’s school office if any of your contact information changes. The Connect-Ed system accesses the district database for all information. Therefore, it is important that you keep your information current. This includes your cell phone and work phone numbers.
Will the district also be sending email
notices?
NO. The district will no longer be using the email notification system
that was done via sign up on the website.
How else can I get information about an emergency or weather related closing?
· Check the district website, www.mamkschools.org
· Listen to radio and television broadcasts
· Call 220-EMER (3637) to hear an automated message
