Let’s Work Together to Make Chatsworth a
Safe School Zone

Dear Parents & Caregivers:

Welcome back to school! The Administration, the Village and the PTA continually strive to make Chatsworth a Safe School Zone. We strongly encourage every family to help us by walking to and from school as much as possible. We all have seen the traffic nightmare that too many cars can create!

If you are unable to walk to and from school for any reason, the following Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures are the approved policy of the Chatsworth Traffic & Safety Commission:

  • PARK IN LEGAL PARKING SPOTS AROUND THE SCHOOL IF YOU MUST WALK YOUR CHILD INTO OR PICK-UP FROM SCHOOL:
    • For example, there is ample parking in the Addison Street shoppers’ lot, CVS and residential side streets which are not within 100 ft. of the school. Give yourself enough time to find a legal parking spot.
  • IF YOU MUST DROP OFF OR PICK UP AT A SCHOOL ENTRANCE, THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS ARE AVAILABLE:
    • Forest Park, Chatsworth Avenue and Addison Street
    • At all three locations, you CANNOT leave your car or linger for more than a couple minutes. This point cannot be stressed enough!

Please share this information with anyone who will be driving your child to school. Enforcement of these policies will be maintained by the Larchmont Police Department on an ongoing basis.

Following are highlights of traffic and parking laws:

  • The corner of Larchmont Ave. at Addison St. by the school gate is NOT A DROP-OFF POINT; doing so is very dangerous to pedestrians.
  • No parking or dropping off on Wendt Ave. opposite the Larchmont Ave. Church; no exceptions!
  • NO PARKING is allowed on the school side of Forest Park Ave, Addison St. or Chatsworth Ave. Even for “just five minutes”!!!
  • DOUBLE PARKING is against the law anywhere, anytime. Never release children from a double-parked vehicle.
  • DO NOT BLOCK DRIVEWAYS; FIRE HYDRANTS OR CROSSWALKS!
  • PEDESTRIANS, even small ones, ALWAYS have the right of way.

The PTA is currently evaluating the possibility of a volunteer-based curbside staff to assist in ensuring safe drop-off and pick-up practices. By working together and following these simple guidelines at drop-off and pick-up, we will create a safe school community for our children.
