Welcome to
Kindergarten
Welcome to kindergarten! Visit our classrooms and look at this overview which has been
designed to give you more specific information about kindergarten, and answer any
questions you and your child may have about what to expect in the upcoming year. Please
refer to the Handbook Section for a general overview of Chatsworth programs, policies and
guidelines.
SCHEDULE
All kindergarten children attend school five mornings and three afternoons a
week. During the first three weeks of school, all kindergarten children attend school in
the morning only. These afternoons have been reserved for in-take
conferences with parents. (See Conferences for more detail.) When full days begin, your
child will be assigned to a Monday and Tuesday afternoon group, or to a Thursday and
Friday afternoon group. Students in both groups attend school on Wednesday afternoons
until dismissal at 2:25 p.m.
Children are allowed to enter school after the first bell rings at: 8:40 a.m.
Children should be in the classroom before the second bell at: 8:45 a.m.
Dismissal for kindergarten children is 5 minutes before the rest of the school. The
teacher or teacher aide waits with the children outside of the building until a parent or
caregiver picks up each child. It is important that whoever is picking up your child be on
time. If no one picks up the child, the child is taken to the office where a
parent will be notified.
Morning Dismissal 11:35 a.m.
Afternoon Dismissal (M,T,Th,Fr) 2:55 p.m.
Wednesday afternoon Dismissal (all students) 2:25 p.m.
