The 5th Grade Human Body Unit

 By Axel and Masahiro

The human body is an amazing machine. It's smarter than any other machine and it works by itself. All of the parts work together.

Muscular System

The muscles help us pick up a lot of things and the muscles help us do exercise.

The muscular system works together with the skeletal system. These muscles are called skeletal muscles. There are 656 skeletal muscles in the human body. They work together and can do correct moves, because the bones are the support for the human body and the muscles help move the bones.

The muscular system has two big parts. Voluntary muscles and involuntary muscles. The voluntary muscles are controlled by the brain and help you do things like lifting objects, running, singing, whistling, climbing, etc. The involuntary muscles also controlled by the brain, do things like digestion, breathing, swallowing, choking, etc.

Skeletal System

The bones have different kinds of joints. The joints are where the bones meet. Some joints help us move. Every finger and every toe has several joints.

The spine is the support of every part of the human body. The spine extends three-fourths of the way down the back. The inside of spine has what is called the spinal cord. The spinal cord carries messages from the brain.

Nervous System

The brain controls the nervous system. The brain has three big parts. The cerebrum, the cerebellum and the brain stem. The cerebrum is the biggest part in the brain. The cerebrum controls thinking, learning and reasoning. The cerebellum controls movement and balance. The brain stem controls life functions, like heartbeat and breathing

Circulatory System

The circulatory system includes the heart, veins and artiers. The heart has 4 chambers; the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle and left ventricle. The right and left side are separated by the septum. The atrium and the ventricle work as a team. The atrium pumps into the ventricle. The ventricle pumps blood to everywhere else in the human body. The heart pumps 1,000,000 times a day.

The human body is better than any other machine.
